About the artist4
Karl Burman seenior on Eesti kunstiajaloos oluline ennekõike arhitektina. Tema projektide järgi ehitatud majad kandsid endas mh ka rahvusromantilisi tunnuseid. Samas ei loobunud Burman ka näitustel esinemisest, olles 1920ndatel ja hiljemgi oma töödega alati väljapanekutel esindatud. Tema käekiri ja motiivistik oli suhteliselt vähenõudlik, avangardi asemel otsis ta oma loomingus pühapäevi: selgeid kujundeid, rahulikku rõõmu, professionaalset tehnikat. Akvarellistina ei olnud Burman sugugi katsetaja, ta töötas selles tehnikas sageli, pöörates nõnda tähelepanu vormide voolavusele ja värvide kumavusele.
